Silvermere Pet Cemetery – Update

Dear Residents,

We have received an update on the Silvermere Pet Cemetery Application.

New information has been posted on the Surrey County Council website, changes to the application are summarised below:

  • A less industrial building in design
  • One less chimney, the three chimney’s are now 15 metres tall, previously 12 meters
  • A total of 13 burning chambers (there were 13 in the 2020 application) there are 12 chambers in operation currently but these are smaller in capacity
  • Equine incinerator remains in the application, considered unnecessary when locations exist in Farnham etc
  • Increase in hourly burn rate to 365kg, almost 50% above today’s capacity. Current burn rate 246%. The 2020 application was also for 365kg per hour
  • Operating hours for the incinerators 18 hours per day, 6am – midnight six days each week. Currently Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm and Saturday 8-1pm

What is critical is that the combination of increased capacity and longer burning hours are significant and would undoubtedly be detrimental to air quality.

The next planning committee meeting is the 8th of September. At this point in time, it is unknown whether Silvermere Haven will be on the agenda. When the Silvermere Haven application is discussed, there is an opportunity for local residents to attend and speak. If you wish to speak at the meeting (date tbc) please contact Mark Ashman* for further information. Unfortunately Residents Associations are not eligible to speak in an official capacity at planning committee meetings.
