“Leave No Trace” etiquette

Dear Residents,

The vast majority of our residents are responsible owners who pick up after their dogs. Unfortunately, there is a small minority who, for whatever reason, bag up their dog’s poo only to leave it behind as litter. This photo is just one example of bags that were left on our verges last week.

Picking up and bagging your dog’s poo is part of being a responsible owner. It doesn’t just happen on its own. It takes deliberate planning and action. Please then, don’t skip what is arguably the most important step: taking the bag with you and disposing of it safely at home.

As well as being unpleasant, dog fouling is also a serious health hazard. Dog mess carries potential diseases for both humans and dogs:

  • Toxocara T Canis is a serious infection which can potentially cause severe eye infection and, in the most serious cases, make humans go blind. Children are most at risk.
  • Parvo is a potentially fatal disease which is transferred between dogs.

It’s not the most pleasant thing to carry around a bag of your dog’s poo for the remainder of your walk, but you should be brandishing that bag like a badge of honour! Know that each person who sees you will have no doubt that you pick up after your pet and that you are not contributing to this blight on our beautiful estate.

Please pass this message on to all dog walkers in your household.

Thank you
