Security over the Christmas Holidays…

Dear All,

We hope you are having a lovely Christmas break.

We understand from Surrey Police that there have been a number of burglaries in the Elmbridge area over the Christmas period, including one near the southern boundary of the estate. The house in question is off the estate; however, we feel it is helpful to pass on the following insights and advice from Surrey Police, especially if you are planning to be away over the holiday period:

• Ladders were used in at least two of the burglaries. (These were left in the shed at the bottom of the garden, and the advice is to lock them away.)
• Bins and garden furniture have been used to climb over gates and up to first floor flat roofs. These should be removed where possible.
• It is apparent that many of the properties were in darkness, so please leave lights on timers if you are going to be out after dusk or if you are away.
• Properties were generally empty at the time with the family away on holiday – so please consider leaving lights on, and giving the impression that the house is occupied by using a ‘fake TV’ etc.
• Some properties have been left with the alarm OFF. Please turn alarms on.

With kind regards,

Claire Webb
