Please see a short biographical note of Richard’s background below:

Colonel Richard Maundrell MVO
Chief Executive
Richard Maundrell is a former senior Army officer in the Grenadier Guards who has completed a broad range of high-profile appointments prior to joining St George’s Hill as Chief Executive. Uniquely, he has dual-tracked his military career with also being a successful property entrepreneur who has created, grown and managed a diverse family property portfolio.
His last military appointment was Director International at the UK Defence Academy where he ran an international strategic leadership programme globally – for which he was nominated for The Queen’s Anniversary Prize. Previously he was Chief of Staff to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, where he organised and managed Prince Philip’s official programme of engagements and accompanied His Royal Highness throughout. This resulted in his investiture by HM The Queen as a Member of The Royal Victorian Order, the Royal Family’s own private order of chivalry. He has also served as an advisor to the Ministry of Defence’s Minister of State evaluating strategic capabilities and securing Secretary of State endorsement for transformational change. Recently he was Commander British Forces in Somalia, where he led the UK’s military diplomatic engagement with the African Union nations and the United Nations to rebuild the Somali Army. This attracted praise from the UK Prime Minister and the award of a Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service.
Richard holds four degrees, including an MBA and a property-focussed MPhil degree from Cambridge University. He has also completed part of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ qualification (sponsored by The Duke of Westminster and his Grosvenor Estate), the Institute of Directors’ Certificate in Company Direction course, and has held an appointment as a Visiting Professor.
From a farming background in Oxfordshire, Richard has maintained his interest in countryside issues, including recently establishing a herd of red deer on the family farm. He is married to Lucy (the Chief Executive of a charitable foundation) and they have two young children. Interested in historic property, he is currently renovating a Georgian Rectory to create an ideal family home.
